A Lady's ChristmasOf Convenience
Bonus Extended Epilogue
Five years later, a week before Christmas…
Hartenwood, draped in a pristine blanket of snow, appeared as though it had been plucked from the pages of a fairy tale. The winter sun cast a radiant glow over the landscape, turning the world in to a sparkling wonderland. It was on this enchanting day that two families came together for a heartwarming adventure.
William, Eliza, and their lively son, Adam, along with Lucas, Harriet, and their two charming twin daughters – Mary and Darcy – had planned a festive sleigh ride through the snow covered woods. The anticipation of the outing had filled the air with a palpable sense of excitement, and as they gathered near the awaiting sleigh, the children’s eyes danced with delight.
The sleigh bells jingled merrily as they embarked on their wintry journey. The horses, adorned with plumes of white feathers, trotted gracefully through the pristine snow, pulling the sleigh with ease. Laughter and cheerful banter filled the air as the families’ shared stories of the year that had just passed before them. A busy year for all of them, with their young children keeping them occupied always.
“…honestly, Eliza, there are days when Mary and Darcy will not stop fighting,” Harriet laughed. “But on the days they love one another…”
“It is perfect,” Lucas agreed with his arm around his wife.
As the sleigh glided through the woods, a sense of tranquility enveloped them. The children were in awe of the magical winter landscape, and even the adults couldn’t help but be captivated by the beauty of nature in its frozen splendor.
It was so lovely that they decided to step out of the sleigh for just a moment, to enjoy the land around them. Then, as if prompted by some invisible signal, the peaceful journey took an unexpected turn. A mischievous spark ignited in the eyes of the children, and with a sudden burst of energy, they began to scoop up handfuls of snow. Before anyone could react, snow balls were flying in all directions, which was not exactly what the adults had in mind…
Not that they were going to be left out of the fun!
Gleeful shrieks and laughter filled the air as the impromptu snow ball fight escalated and the parents relieved their youth for a moment by tossing snow around as well. Snowflakes swirled around them, adding to the enchantment of the moment. Even the horses seemed to sense the jubilation and joined in the festivities with playful whinnies.
Amidst the snowy chaos, William and Eliza stole glances at each other, their hearts warmed not only by the love they shared but also the memories that had brought them to where they were. Snow ball fights would always hold a special place in their hearts after their almost kiss the year before they got married.
Eliza, her cheeks rosy from the excitement, turned to William with eyes that sparkled like the snowflakes that gently descended around them. She leaned in closer, her voice soft and intimate amidst the tranquil beauty of the snow laden trees.
“William,” she whispered, her breath visible in the chilly air.
“Oh no,” he declared with a laugh. “I am not about to be tricked by you. Put the snow down.”
Eliza lifted up her hands in a surrendering gesture to show that she had no snow. It was only when William saw that she seriously did wish to speak with him, that he stepped closer to her.
“I have something to tell you,” she giggled as her hands fluttered down to her stomach. “We are going to be having another baby sometime soon.”
The words hung in the air, a sweet secret shared between them. William’s eyes widened with a mixture of joy and surprise, his heart skipping a beat at the wonderful news. He pulled Eliza close, the world around them fading away as he pressed his lips to hers.
It was a kiss filled with happiness, a celebration of their growing family, and a testament to their enduring love. In that quiet, snowy haven, amidst the whispered secrets of the woods, they sealed the moment with a kiss that spoke volumes, a kiss that promised a future filled with laughter, love, and the pitter patter of tiny feet.
“That is wonderful,” William declared happily. “I am truly excited.”
As they held each other in the winter’s embrace, the world seemed to come alive with new possibilities. The snow continued to fall, covering them in a soft, silvery blanket, while in their hearts, the warmth of anticipation and love burned brightly, illuminating the path of their shared journey in to the future.
